Personal:

Pride necessarily sprouts and grows; a pride that can only come from relentless kneading of unwilling flesh, painful months of grinding and burning away all that is heavy, all that is strength-sapping and useless to the body as a projectile. --John L. Parker, Jr., runner/author

Out the door at 4:00 am, with temps already in the mid-70s, for 40 Miles in 5:26:58 (8:10). Dave joined me for Miles 16 through 31, and I actually averaged sub-8:00 through Mile 36 before turning up overlook for a steep, 0.75 Mile climb (most of which I walked). Time includes 4-5 one minute or so stops to take gels (4) and chews (1 bag, 2 servings).

Crazy! That's a great pace too with not a ton of nutrition. Seems like you are adapting to the super long distances quite nicely.

Awesome! Will talk more later.

Awesome, buddy! Hey - time to update your goals!! I, for one, am very curious what the 35mi. and 40mi. runs are training for? :) Nice job.

Jason-Really enjoying the high mileage and feeling like I've found the edge I had back in 2010-2011 when I was hell-bent on qualifying for Boston.

Luke-Talk soon; remind me to tell you (and possibly post) about my near death match with a deranged skunk during yesterday's 40 miler. The think chased me for 100 yards and then blocked the trail.

Joe-I am not yet registered but considering whether to participate in the Arkansas Traveler 100 on October 5; it's a WS qualifier; of course, I've never raced beyond 26.2.
