Personal:

Pride necessarily sprouts and grows; a pride that can only come from relentless kneading of unwilling flesh, painful months of grinding and burning away all that is heavy, all that is strength-sapping and useless to the body as a projectile. --John L. Parker, Jr., runner/author

Tough goings today.  After catching my kids' stomach virus and spending most of Sunday afternoon in bed, I ended up taking yesterday off (except for mowing the yard very slowly late Sunday).  I was feeling good enough to go to work today, but my energy level is still pretty low.  But if I can go to work, I sure as hell can run, right?

So I clogged away for 12.5 Miles on the treadmill, running Mile 11 and Mile 12 at a 7:13 pace.  After a half-mile cool down, and a few minutes in the sauna, I took another shot and ran another 3 Miles, basically to the point of diminishing returns.  I ran Mile 3 of the second run in 7:13 as well.

am:  8 Miles at 6:51/mile on a nice, "cool" morning of 70 degrees in my West Little Rock neighborhood.  Bounced back nicely after a day off on Sunday and a grinder yesterday.

pm:  3.5 Mile Progressive Run on treadmill at 6:58 (M1), 6:40 (M2), 6:18 (M3), 5:56 (.25), and 4:49 (.25); in leadership training all day today, and the class happens to be taking place on the same floor of my gym (good break for me)...so despite the brief 45-minute break for lunch, I was able to work in this nice, short run; felt a little better than expected given that I don't usually run doubles.

Total:  11.5 Miles, all at MP or below.

8 Miles Easy on a mild, humid morning of 75 degrees in my West Little Rock neighborhood.

Felt a little fatigued after yesterday's double, but today needed to be easy anyway.

1 Mile Easy followed by 3 Miles at 6:10/mile and another easy mile to cool down.

Hot and humid, late afternoon run, but my legs held up pretty well when I pushed pretty hard during the third mile at a fast tempo pace.

5 Miles in 35:00 on a warm, humid evening in my West Little Rock neighborhood; pretty good effort on Miles 2, 3, and 4 (6:58/mile) considering lack of rest this week, heat, etc.

7.25 Miles around West Little Rock, breaking at Baptist Medical Center to visit my grandfather for a few minutes, before returning home via the more direct route of 3.75 Miles; 11 Miles Total in 95 degree heat, high humidity, with a heat index knocking on triple digits.

First 5 Miles right at 7:00/mile, but then I backed it down.  I know my limitations.
