Personal:

Pride necessarily sprouts and grows; a pride that can only come from relentless kneading of unwilling flesh, painful months of grinding and burning away all that is heavy, all that is strength-sapping and useless to the body as a projectile. --John L. Parker, Jr., runner/author

Garmin-free, I ran for 91 minutes at approximately 7:00/mile for a total of about 13 miles.  Still in Fordyce, Arkansas, following my 10-Year Class Reunion, I ran east through town to Hwy 8 and out past Tri-County Lake to the Cleveland County sign and back to my best friend's house in my old neighborhood.

Fordyce Bank & Trust sign showed 73 degrees at 7:00 am (Mile 2), and it was muggy, brother.  I did have some nice cloud coverage for most of the run, however, preventing what could have been a really warm run.

Felt pretty good after a couple of extra speek workouts, two consecutive 5K races, etc., and I look forward to a very light week of tapering as I make final preparations for the Country Music Marathon in Nashville, Tennessee this Saturday (7:00am start!!!).

Is there a "Birthplace of Bear Bryant" sign on the way into Fordyce or did his dubious association with Alabama ruin that?

Hey, way to scoop up the W Saturday. I always tell my runners that if each one of them could experience the feeling of winning a race that they would be hooked for life.

There most certainly is, Rob, and in fact, the Hunt household typically cheers for the Tide when it's not playing the Razorbacks...

Of course, my wife's maiden name is Bryant. I married Coach Bryant's great niece!

As to the race, winning back home with my Dad and brother there was pretty special. That said, 20 (and maybe just 10) years ago, my Dad would have taught me a thing or two and left me running for second.

That is the most awesomest thing I've heard in a long time. I'm going to share that with our football coach this afternoon.

Arkansas wasn't in the SEC back then anyway was it?

Yeah, I know "awesomest" isn't a word.

No, Arkansas was a member of the old Southwest Conference (morphed into Big XII) with Texas and Texas A&M as its big rivals. Folks around here, particularly those over 40, still have a passionate hatred for burnt orange.

Sort of funny about my wife, actually. I graduated and played ball with her first cousin (a great-nephew of Coach Bryant), but we didn't meet until freshman year of college at the University of Arkansas. She grew up in Little Rock.

Her family's favorite line at the time of our engagement was: "We didn't send you to college to marry a boy from Fordyce...." I think they were kidding.
