Personal:

Pride necessarily sprouts and grows; a pride that can only come from relentless kneading of unwilling flesh, painful months of grinding and burning away all that is heavy, all that is strength-sapping and useless to the body as a projectile. --John L. Parker, Jr., runner/author

AM:  Beautiful morning in the 70s!  This morning, I ran 12 Miles in 95 minutes; first 3 Miles with Dad, 7 more easy, and the final 2 Miles at MP (around 6:40/mile).

PM:  10 Miles with Dave on a great evening along the Arkansas Trail. Sarting at Two Rivers Bridge, we ran west along the South Trail, crossing over the Big Dam Bridge into North Little Rock, the loopimg around Burns Park Soccer Complex before heading back.

The late evening run certainly brought out the critters:  4 deer, 3 skunks, 1 angry racoon, and countless squirrels.  And that's just the count for the critters ON the trail.  Who knows what lies in the deep beyond?  Pretty funny stuff, though, because after we nearly got sprayed by the lovely skunk couple early in the run, we jumped every time a leaf blew across our path.

Dave's running great, and tonight's run turned into an easy progressive with a couple solid mid-to-late miles at sub 7:30 and an overall average around 8:00/mile.

Total:  22 Miles.

Appreciated the critter inventory. Here in our desert climate we have way fewer critters than you do down south.

Of course that means way less road kill too.

I cannot decide if your previous email was making fun of the South, e.g.," more roadkill to eat," or simply envious, e.g., "wish we had more roadkill to eat!". Given your southern connections and appreciation of southern culture, surely the latter, eh?

Just a simple observation.

Back when I used to live in Florida and did a lot of cycling, this would present me with a dilemma. I'd be out riding on these suicidal roads with no shoulder or bike lane and dump trucks and semis roaring by me at seventy mph on my left. Then I'd encounter a dead armadillo or possum perfectly positioned in my path. Couldn't go right, couldn't go left, so it was right over the critter. Fun hosing the chunks out of my chain and spokes afterwards.

Oh yeah...

You're one funny guy Wesley.
