Personal:

Pride necessarily sprouts and grows; a pride that can only come from relentless kneading of unwilling flesh, painful months of grinding and burning away all that is heavy, all that is strength-sapping and useless to the body as a projectile. --John L. Parker, Jr., runner/author

PM:  So I couldn't resist...20 minute trudge through 8 inches of snow on trails on my parents' land; approximately 2 Miles; followed by 20-30 minute hike back to the house.

Man, the winter weather is never ending this year for you guys. Oh well, hang in there - can't be too much longer.

Quick tip - in the last month or so before a marathon emphasize quality runs and rest. Make your hard days a little harder and your recovery days quite a bit easier. And don't be afraid to take a day off.

Do you have at least one more 20 miler planned?

Thanks, Rob. I have a 20 miler planned for Sunday, and I'll begin tapering on Monday. From a total mileage perspective, I've been over 50 the last three weeks. In emphasizing quality workouts and increasing rest, how much should I expect to reduce total mileage?

If I stay under control, would there be any major risk in running a 5K next Saturday (two weeks before the L.R. Marathon)? My law school is hosting the race in downtown Little Rock, and I thought it might be fun.

By the way, we got nearly 8 inches of beautiful, fluffy snow in Hot Springs, Arkansas yesterday.
